the pyp program

The PYP curriculum

Taught in over 109 countries around the world, the PYP curriculum framework is uniquely adaptable to state and national standards. Guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, students deepen their learning by developing their conceptual understandings; strengthening their knowledge and skills across and beyond subject areas.

Who is the PYP for?

As long as a school has been authorized to implement the programme, the PYP is open to any student aged 3 to 12.

What are the benefits of the PYP?

The PYP is a transformative experience for students, teachers and whole school communities. PYP students learn how to take control of their learning, teachers collaborate to deepen student- learning and increase their confidence and self-motivation. The whole school community, including parents, are viewed as partners in learning, and actively contribute to a holistic educational experience

THE ESSENCE OF THE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME

The Primary Years Programme entails the education from early years up to the end of Elementary. Just like us, world schools affiliated to IB usually work with both their common core and the international curriculum interwoven. PYP aims to get children ready, prepared and willing to become world citizens. PYP´s essence translates into working now to build the best possible future for all. St. John´s students will become young adults with a deep international mindset, prepared to take action in finding solutions for global issues that may distress the society, and the planet. PYP promotes in each child the unstoppable search for knowledge, and always for the most adequate solution for a problem. Students learn in different ways, and demonstrate different abilities when it comes to process information. PYP understands our individuality and how important it is to identify and strengthen individual attributes during the learning process. PYP believes in helping children to nurture their own self-care, self-responsibility, to respect each other and our planet. Above all, it is very important to be bold, to develop self-awareness and confidence to decide and plan for their own future.
